Lesson Breakdown:

Lesson 1- What are Forces? (pages 464-469)
Vocabulary: force, contact force, friction, non-contact force, gravity
A force is a push or pull.
Contact forces, such as friction, only happen when objects touch.
Non-contact forces, such as gravity, can act from a distance.
Identify types of contact forces and non-contact forces.

Lesson 2 - What are Newton’s Laws? (pages 470-477)
Vocabulary: acceleration, inertia
Due to inertia, objects resist changes in motion.
Acceleration depends on an object’s mass and the force acting on it.
Every force creates an equal and opposite force.
Students WILL NOT have to use the formula to find force on page 476.

Lesson 3- What are machines? (pages 479-485)
Vocabulary: simple machine, lever, pulley, wheel and axle, inclined plane, wedge, screw
Identify examples of all 6 simple machines.
Complex machines use two or more simple machines.
