Happy Friday, everyone!
Here's what we've been up to this week...
Science: This week in science we finished up our last lesson for our space chapter (chapter 9). We learned about asteroids, comets, meteors, dwarf planets, and moons. We will be having our chapter test next Friday, February 3rd. I will post a study guide by Monday!
Math: In math, we began our second chapter on fractions. We learned how to add and subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators. We used least common multiples to help us find a common denominator and used greatest common factors to make sure our answer was in simplest form.
Writing: We are working on our second literary essay currently. We learned how to organize our essay, use quotes from the story as evidence to support our claim, and how to notice techniques that the author uses. We will be drafting for the next several days and then publishing!
Reading: We set a goal to finish our fantasy book club books by today but a few groups are still finishing up so hopefully they will be beginning their second book early next week. They have been practicing finding the internal and external quests of our characters and finding universal themes within our texts.
Social Studies: The kiddos are working on a project where they are choosing either the middle, southern, or New England colonies and then creating a commercial, slideshow, brochure, etc to convince others to move to their land. They are so creative and are having a great time with the project!
Upcoming Events:
2/1: Homerun Club (bring snack)
2/3: Science Test
2/7: Math Test
I hope everyone has a great weekend! Please make sure to send in Sheldon field trip permission slips next week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Holtmann
