Weekly Update 2/24 (a few days late!)
I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!
Here's what we were up to last week...
Science: We learned about Newton's laws by doing an experiment with a paper helicopter and using our book and peers to discuss how we notice these laws in everyday activities.
Math: We wrapped up chapter 10 and took our test on Friday. Today we are taking a pretest for chapter 11 and will jump right into measurement on Tuesday!
Writing: We continued doing research for our chocolate milk argument essay and began writing our first draft. We are looking forward to publishing that piece this week!
Reading: We are also practicing researching a topic in reading. We are spending time realizing that reading does not only have to be sitting down and reading a chapter book but it can also be reading short articles to learn about a new topic.
Upcoming Events:
2/28: Mother/ Son Dance
3/1: Homerun Club
Have a great week!!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Holtmann

If your child participated in Read to Succeed and wants to receive their Six Flags ticket they will need to return their reading log to school by Friday. You can print another copy if you scroll down on the blog, I posted it a week or two ago.

Weekly Update 2/17
Happy Friday!! I hope you can enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend!
Science: We began our chapter on forces and simple machines! We are looking forward to doing some hands on activities with chapter!
Math: During math this week we learned how to multiply fractions-- fractions by whole numbers, fractions by fractions, mixed numbers by mixed numbers. We also began learning about dividing fractions! We will be having a chapter 10 test, next Friday, 2/24!
Writing: We celebrated our literary essay unit and began our argument essay today! We are debating whether chocolate milk should or should not be served in our cafeteria. The kids are super excited and had some great ideas of how we could collect evidence. We have been discussing how we have to learn about both sides of an argument to write the best essay.
Reading: We celebrated finishing our fantasy unit in reading and are now beginning our next unit-- Argument and Advocacy. We are looking forward to working in research groups to learn about a topic that we feel passionate about!
**Reminder: Read to Succeed logs are due next Friday (2/24)!!**
Upcoming Events:
2/20: No School (President's Day)

Happy February! Hope it has been a great week! We've been busy in 5th grade...
Science: During science this week, we spent time reviewing for our test and then took our test today! We used Quizlet and jeopardy games to prepare for the test!

Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Holtmann
